Vancouver real estate and green building supplies

Blog by Patricia Houlihan - Personal Real Estate Corporation | April 18th, 2007

Well once again the issue of environment intersects with real estate! It is great how much easier it is to now go green in building and renovating a home.  Consumer demand is finally making it viable to sell green products-although there is still a lot of room for improvement in public awareness and public embracing of the concept. While wide plank reclaimed flooring is all rage, few people are willing to buy other building supplies which are "recycled" or "used".  I can't really understand why given how much those same people will comment on how much they love pieces such as the fantastic clawfoot tub which was dragged out of a Burnaby used building supply store.  One of my clients recently had me come to look at their unfinished doors-they looked brand new to me but had been purchased at a price of $200 at a used building supply store when the regular retail was apparently over $1000!  I think its great to reuse things-I keep trying to tell a good friend of mine who is keen on recycling that he has forgotten the first 2 tenets of the expression "reduce, reuse, recycle".  I refer to recycling as the last resort...but don't get me started on that!
