Upcoming Vancouver Christmas Fairs
We all love the magic Christmas, but gearing up for the holidays can often be stressful in our busy-day lives. But don’t worry! This year there is a great line-up of holiday markets that are sure to get you inspired and prepared for the holiday season. Not only will you find Christmas gifts for every budget, these artisan markets are the prefect place to find unique decorations for your home this holiday.
I feel more and more Christmasy with each weekend of craft fairs I visit. I can usually only do a quick run through (real estate takes up a lot of otherwise craft fair available time) but it is still enjoyable! Circle Craft and the East Side Culture Crawl aren’t really Christmasy but as we move into the season, they become more so….Dunbar Christmas Craft Fair was lovely and very Christmasy…
Here is a list of some of my favourite Christmas fairs:
Strathcona Winter Craft Fair, November 24
This fair at the Strathcona Community Centre runs from 10am to 5pm at 601 Keefer St. For more information contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
Portobello West, November 24 and 25
Portobello West presents more than 50 local designers of handmade fashion, accessories, jewelry and art. This event is located at Creekside Community Centre in the former Olympic Village. For more information visit: http://www.portobellowest.com
SFU Winter Artisan Fair, November 27 to 30
The Winter Fair showcases local artisan and fine food makers at the Burnaby Mountain SFU campus. For more information visit: http://www.sfss.ca/winter_craft_fair.html
TOQUE, Dec. 7 and 8
TOQUE: Western Front’s annual craft fair is a curated event that sells publications, cards, textiles, ceramics, jewelry, and chocolate. The event is located at 303 East Eighth Avenue. All proceeds from TOQUE support Western Front, a non-profit arts organization that operates in the 1920s heritage building. For more information visit: http://front.bc.ca/events/toque-2012/
Got Craft?, Dec. 8 and 9
Got Craft? is Vancouver’s largest indie craft fair. This curated event sells food, jewelry, clothing, ceramics and artisan chocolate. For more information visit: http://www.gotcraft.com/vancouver
Vancouver Farmers Markets Holiday Market, Dec. 15
More than 85 vendors will show their finest selections of food, art, craft and home accessories at this annual market at the Croatian Cultural Centre. For more information visit: http://www.eatlocal.org/holidaymarket.htm
Another GREAT one is Shiny, Fuzzy, Muddy (Heritage Hall Dec 8-9th) check out amazing jewelry goddess – Kari Woo- who designed and crafted my “house” necklace-her off the shelf items are also lovely. There are also two new ones-the Great Canadian Craft Fair which apparently has 200 vendors (cost is $18 entry??) and there is also a new one this year at the Shangrila Hotel downtown-I hope to be checking these out! As a realtor who cares about my Vancouver community, I like to spread the magic of Christmas and support local artisans! If you know of other good fairs please let me know! These holiday markets are the perfect place to find that one-of-a-kind gift or special decoration to hang on the Christmas tree. …and unfortunately some of the best seasonal food around!
