Charity and Hope

Macdonald Realty Group provides significant support for charitable organizations. The primary charity is one which fits in well with the real estate business: Habitat for Humanity:

This is a great charity that Patricia has always supported having learned of some of the initiatives in her travels around the world.

Patricia also carries out volunteer and charitable work.  In addition to continuing her work over the past 15 years doing probono legal work and providing donations for environmental legal causes, she also supports a wide range of non-environmental charitable projects.  She has been trying to focus on a couple of charities but there are just so many good causes that need help, including:

Vancouver Food Bank (food for people in need; www.vancouverfoodbank.org)

Union Gospel Mission (we support the meals for street people program; http://www.ugm.bc.ca/)

Dress for Success (to get women back into the workforce; http://www.dressforsuccess.org/affiliate.aspx?sisid=72&pageid=1)

Canadian Cancer SocietyCanadian Cancer Society (this one is probably obvious; www.cancer.ca)

UNICEF (www.unicef.ca), World Vision (www.worldvision.ca), Plan (www.plan.ca) We support monthly for 2 young girls, provide funds for disaster relief and purchase a variety of supplies for developing villages each year.  These organizations provide great gift options-when you donate, they can provide you with a certificate/gift card that you can give to anyone on whose behalf you have donated! Its great.  In addition, I personally know people who have been on the Board/visited their projects to check out how the money is really being used.  I have also met people in some of the recipient countries who can explain how much of a difference these gifts make to people)

Kids of Steel Triathlon and Triathlon BC-for several years we were a regular sponsor of these organizations and we now provide occasional support. www.tribc.ca

Barrio Youth project in Uruguay . This is a recent initiative we have begun supporting.  The project is designed to use photography to reach and inspire underprivileged youth. http://www.illumina.pacificaphotography.com/

Client Gifts

In 2006, in lieu of client holiday gifts, we purchased many hens, roosters, goats, medical packages, sports equipment packages, fruit trees, etc. to go to developing countries through World Vision. We focused last year primarily on providing on going food sources when choosing the gifts to purchase.

In 2007, locally we are purchasing 100 Christmas dinners for people living on the Vancouver streets.  Our international donations this year will be sent to developing countries and will include sustance items like   water pumps, protein porridge for infants, and farm animals through UNICEF. However, this year we will also focus on education-purchasing school supplies and farm kits which include not only seeds and tools but also education programmes for farmers in the hope of giving them long term knowledge to increase self sufficiency.

Upcoming Projects: HOPE

We are currently selling properties in Nicaragua . In order to give something back to that country, we are in contact with an organization that runs three orphanages there.  We are hoping to set up a program to ensure the children in the orphanages receive adequate education and medical treatment.  Currently access to education, school supplies and medications are issues.  We hope to make a difference in this regard.

Want to get involved?

We encourage our clients to get involved in volunteering or charitable contributions.  If you would like to volunteer at any of the above and are unsure of how to get involved, please contact Patricia.  We are also happy to assist in any way to facilitate your financial support of these organizations (for example we could arrange for pick up of your clothing donations for Dress for Success or food donations for the Food Bank)....every bit counts!  Please contact us if we can help facilitate your charitable contribution!
