BC Assessments released
By now most people have received their new property assessments (and I have to say that while I have been contacted by my neighbours to discuss theirs, I haven't yet opened my own!). Most assessments have increased significantly so many people are wondering if they can appeal their assessments and hopefully lower their taxes. While it is possible to appeal your assessment (and I assisted someone in doing so last year) you will likely need to be able to show that your property was assessed at higher than the likely selling price. In most cases this will not be the possible as the assessments generally still seem to be lower than market value. On another note-please remember that there is not necessarily any reason to panic if you have a significant increase in your assessment. You will not necessarily receive a similarly significant increase in property taxes.....
